At the recently held 2026 Space Computing Industry Conference, Zhao Ce, Deputy Director General of the Department of Information and Communications Development at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), stated that efforts will be made to accelerate the development of strategic emerging industries including next-generation information technology and aerospace, build a whole-chain cultivation system for future industries, develop new-type infrastructure in an appropriately forward-looking manner, establish a multi-level computing infrastructure system, and speed up the networking of low-Earth orbit satellite internet, so as to provide top-level guidance for advancing the space computing industry.
Zhao Ce pointed out that space computing covers multiple fields such as computing chips, inter-satellite communication, energy supply and heat dissipation, rocket launch, and satellite manufacturing. As an engineering extension of ground technology industries into space, space computing boasts multiple advantages including on-orbit real-time processing, low-cost energy and optical domain coverage. It helps improve data processing efficiency, enhance space energy development capacity, upgrade full-domain coverage and anti-interference capabilities, and expand the boundaries of network applications, boasting strategic value and industrial prospects.
In recent years, China has gradually carried out the construction and pilot verification of space computing networking, accelerated technological breakthroughs in satellite-borne intelligent computing chips and inter-satellite laser communication, advanced multiple constellation networking plans in an orderly manner, conducted on-orbit verification of experimental satellites, steadily promoted the on-orbit deployment of large models, deepened industry-university-research cooperation, and gradually built an industrial ecosystem.
Looking ahead, Zhao Ce said that China will seize the potential opportunities brought by the development of space computing as an emerging industry, while actively addressing challenges in chip performance, inter-satellite communication, energy supply and heat dissipation. The country will strengthen systematic planning, make forward-looking layouts, deepen industrial cultivation, and promote the sound and orderly development of space computing.
