ITU-R SG5 Meeting Adopts Recommendations Including NearLink Standard and 6GHz IMT Frequency Plan

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the meeting of ITU-R Study Group 5 (SG5) and its subordinate Working Parties WP5A, WP5B, and WP5C was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from November 17 to December 2, 2025. This gathering marked the third meeting of SG5 and the fourth meeting of relevant working parties within the study cycle leading up to the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-27).

The meeting focused on key topics including wireless access, industrial internet, intelligent transportation, Railway Radiocommunication Systems between Train and Trackside (RSTT), Public Digital Trunking (PDT) standards, coordination methods for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) services in the 6GHz band, as well as new technologies for aeronautical and maritime communications. In-depth discussions were conducted to advance the development of multiple standards. A total of 26 documents submitted by China were adopted, with substantial progress achieved on several technical proposals:

China's new RSTT recommendation, NearLink standard, and 6GHz band IMT frequency arrangement plan were incorporated into relevant recommendations and approved by the meeting. A new report on 6GHz band IMT service coordination methods was granted approval, while PDT standards and technical characteristics were successfully included in a report related to public protection and disaster relief. Additionally, a revision proposal to add industrial private network-related research to ITU-R's study topic "Digital Land Mobile Systems for Specific Applications" was also adopted.
