5G Data Traffic During the Spring Festival Increased by 35% year-on-year

According to data released by the Operations Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, during the 2025 Spring Festival, the cumulative mobile internet user access data reached 6,603,000 TB over eight days (from 00:00 on January 28 to 24:00 on February 4), marking a 9.9% increase compared to the 2024 Spring Festival. On February 2, mobile internet user access data peaked at 848,000 TB, an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period in 2024, and 23,000 TB higher than the daily average during the Spring Festival period.

5G mobile internet user access data maintained rapid growth, with a 35% increase compared to the 2024 Spring Festival, accounting for 60.9% of mobile internet user access data. Apps such as Douyin, WeChat, Kuaishou, Tencent Video, and Xiaohongshu ranked high in data usage, comprising over 60% of total app data usage.

In addition, during the 2025 Spring Festival, the total national mobile phone billing duration was 55.73 billion minutes, a decrease of 8.5% compared to the 2024 Spring Festival. National mobile SMS volume reached 33.44 billion messages, marking a 20.4% increase compared to the 2024 Spring Festival. On the first day of the new year, January 29, SMS volume reached 3.95 billion messages, an 11.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The Operations Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also specifically mentioned that during the 2025 Spring Festival, basic telecommunications companies actively utilized AI to provide innovative services, integrating their capabilities in 5G, cloud platforms, and big data. They expanded AI application scenarios across multiple fields and enriched AI application offerings. All three major telecommunications companies fully integrated the DeepSeek open-source model to achieve applications across various scenarios and products. They provided dedicated computing power solutions and supporting environments for the popular DeepSeek-R1 model to help unleash the performance of domestic models.
