During the recent "2023 Science and Technology Week and Strategic Emerging Industries Co-creation and Development Conference," Liu Yulin, a senior inspector of the Information and Communication Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that strategic emerging industries, based on major technological breakthroughs and significant development needs, play a crucial role in leading and driving the overall and long-term development of the economy and society. They are an important force guiding future economic and social development.
Liu Yulin further stated that the new generation of information technology is an important component of strategic emerging industries. In recent years, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has conscientiously implemented the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and actively promoted a series of work related to the evolution of 5G technology and the innovative development of 6G. With the strong support of various stakeholders in the industry chain, significant progress has been made in various areas. The establishment of organizations such as the IMT2020 5G Promotion Group, IMT2030 6G Promotion Group, and Quantum Information Network Industry Alliance has accelerated breakthroughs in technologies such as 5G, 6G, and quantum communication, forming an internationally competitive industrial system and vigorously promoting the commercial deployment of 5G and other technologies. By the end of July, China had built over 3 million 5G base stations, with a total of over 20 million 10G PON ports. The dual-gigabit network capabilities have been fully covered in prefecture-level cities and county-level urban areas. The scale application of 5G has been actively promoted, with 5G applications integrated into 60 out of 97 national economic categories, covering over 12,000 application themes. The empowering effect of 5G continues to manifest.
Liu Yulin pointed out that the current new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is brewing and rising. The new generation of information technologies such as 5G and 6G has become the leading force driving innovation-driven development. It is urgent to seize development opportunities, further consolidate industrial consensus, enhance integrated innovation, continuously strengthen foundations, fill gaps, and cultivate strengths. This will help enhance the scale and innovation capabilities of China's strategic emerging industries and inject inexhaustible power into promoting high-quality economic and social development.
