Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued the main indicators of communication industry from January to May, 2021. By end of May, 2021, the broadband access users amounted to 505 million in China, first topping the 500 million mark, up by 9.4% year-on-year.
FTTH/O users numbered 475 million, up by 10.5% year-on-year. Among them, 12.19 million users had the FTTH/O rate at 1,000M and above, an increase by 439.6% year-on-year. Compared with the user number by the end of last year, the net user growth reached 5.79 million, an average monthly net growth of over 1 million.
According to the “Dual Gigabit” Network Coordinated Development Action Plan (2021–2023) released by the MIIT this March, the Gigabit optical fiber network should cover 200 million households; the port scale of 10G-PON and above should surpass 5 million; and Gigaband users should exceed 10 million. It marks that the annual objective were accomplished in advance in the first five months of the year.
