Taiwan market: APBT waiting for NCC green light to offer CDMA2000 3.5G services

Updated:2011/3/9 17:47

Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom (APBT), the only CDMA 2000 3G mobile telecom carrier in Taiwan, is waiting for approval from the National Communications Commission (NCC) for its proposal to upgrade its data communication services to CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev B, the 3.5-generation standard of CDMA2000, according to company CEO Vincent Chih.

APBT expects the operation of 3.5G services to increase the revenue share for mobile Internet-access services from 10% in 2010 to 12-15% in 2011, Chih indicated. APBT's 2011 procurement of handsets and other types of terminal devices will mainly hinge on when CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev B services can be launched, Chih said, adding that for the time being, APBT plans to procure 1.2-1.3 million handsets and other terminal devices in total in 2011, including smartphones and tablet PCs.

In order to enhance its mobile Internet-access services, APBT has launched A+ Zone, its platform for multimedia value-added services, and A+ Mart for mobile applications.
