MIIT: Investments in Telecom Universal Service Have Exceeded CNY30 Billion

MIIT and China's Ministry of Finance have carried out two telecom universal service pilot works in 2016 and the central government & enterprises have invested over CNY30 billion, MIIT chief engineer Zhang Feng said at the National Telecom Universal Service Pilot Work Exchange.

China will implement FTTH construction and upgrading in 100,000 administrative villages in 27 provinces. The sum of broadband construction tasks in administrative villages deployed in one year surpasses that during the 12th Five-Year Plan.

By the end of November 2016, fiber access accounted for 82.2% in the rural areas of China, increasing 19% compared with 2015; broadband coverage rate in poor villages was over 80%; fiber broadband users exceeded 61 million in rural areas, a 90% increase compared with the end of 2015.
